Sculpt and paint your Unreal landscape in Blender.
Venom Bridge Link brings your Unreal Engine landscape into Blender with Unreal's exact heights. Sculpt it with Draw, Clay, Grab or Smooth and every stroke lands in Unreal's heightmap, paint its real paint layers with their textures showing, and watch Unreal's grass regrow. No heightmap exports, no re-imports.
How it works
- Connect Blender to the level open in Unreal. The landscape arrives as one terrain object named after it, vertex for vertex.
- Select the terrain and enter Sculpt mode. After each stroke the heights go to Unreal as one undoable transaction.
- To paint, open the Land tab → Landscape Paint and click a layer's card. You paint with Unreal's own landscape brush, ported line for line, or with Blender's brushes.
- Sculpt or paint in Unreal instead, and Blender refreshes when you switch back.
Paint the real paint layers
Every paint layer comes over as an editable greyscale image with Unreal's exact weights, one pixel per landscape vertex. The terrain in Blender shows the real layer textures, mixed the way Unreal mixes them, so every brush stroke shows at once. Weight-blended layers stay at 100% together, like with Unreal's paint tool.
What comes over
- Exact heights: Unreal's 16-bit heightmap, vertex by vertex. Very large landscapes are shown at every 2nd vertex to keep Blender responsive, and sculpting still lands exactly.
- The look: a top-down capture of the landscape material, up to 4096 px.
- Landscape grass: the grass Unreal grows, as read-only instancers that regrow as you sculpt and paint (needs the Foliage Helper).
- World Partition: the loaded part of the landscape; load more regions in Unreal and Blender follows.
Good to know
- Only height goes back: sideways vertex moves are ignored.
- Foliage follows a sculpt made in Blender the way it follows Unreal's own brush, as the project's Foliage Landscape Snapping Mode says.
- New paint layers are made in Unreal; Blender shows them after the next update.
- Landscape splines aren't mirrored yet.
Questions
Can I sculpt an Unreal Engine landscape in Blender?
Yes. With Venom Bridge Link the landscape comes into Blender as a terrain object with Unreal's exact heights. Sculpt it with Blender's brushes and each stroke lands in Unreal's heightmap as one undo step.
Do I have to export and import a heightmap?
No. Heights and paint layers travel live between the two apps. There are no heightmap files to export or import.
Does it work with World Partition?
Yes, for the part of the landscape that is loaded in Unreal. Load more regions and Blender follows.
